Spiritual Direction is sometimes called Spiritual counseling, spiritual guidance or Spiritual companion. Spiritual direction is an opportunity to deepen your relationship with the Divine and to learn and grow in our own personal spirituality. In the process you share stories, reflect deeply on the experiences of your daily life and how you are experiencing spiritual issues. Your counselor listens, asks questions and provides appropriate activities to assist you in this process of reflection and growth. As you contemplate, you will gradually begin to recognize the presence and grace of a Higher Power in your life. You may come to realize that this Spirit is truly with you every day and everywhere. You will discover that the Spirit has been waiting for you to seek this closer relationship.
Spiritual direction is not so much about being directed, but rather it is very much about being encouraged to draw closer to the spiritual center in your life. Your counselor is your companion on the journey. Sessions are sixty to seventy five minutes long, usually once a month depending on one's individual needs. Cost: $60 per session
Richard Horton practices spiritual direction and is certified by The Haden Institute in the Jungian Christian mystical tradition. He holds a B.A. in liberal arts and a M.Ed. in science education which all relates to his work for many years as a science and environmental educator and also led him to become an Earth Educator of the International Institute for Earth Education. Along with his work as a graduate of the Educator's Program of the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland, Rich's life has moved toward a greater understanding of the Spirit moving within all creation and within all people as they realize that their life journeys are really spiritual journeys. This grounding in creation spirituality is enhanced by the spirituality of the ancient Celts and the Franciscans. Rich is an active user of the Enneagram and encourages his seekers to use this spiritual tool. He is also involved in men's spirituality work as part of his involvement with the international group, Illuman. Rich sees his role as an active holy listener as he shares one's individual journey into wholeness with the Holy at the center of our being. He encourages seekers to use all their being — head, heart, and body — to find the Spirit moving within them: a movement that brings the blessings of love, joy and wonder into daily living as beloved children. Rich is an active hiker and gardener and enjoys sharing these interests as well as home hospitality, theater and music with his partner, Ron.
